Select a few children to come forward to write their birth date on the board. Then
write a dash and a question mark to the right of their date (teacher can do the
same). Now write the birth, dash, and death date of someone (it can be someone you’ve
known or someone famous).
Discussion
All of us have a birth date and, unless Jesus comes back soon, all of us will have a
death date. Today’s lesson concerns our dash marks. For some of us that dash
represents 60, 70 or 80 plus years. For others, it might stand for only a few years.
Regardless, that dash represents how we’ve lived our lives and the choices we’ve
made during the time that God has given us.
Today’s Bible lesson is about a husband and wife who made some very bad
choices. Because of their choices, they were severely punished by God. Read Acts 4:32-5:11 from a child-friendly Bible or use the following skit.
Ananias & Sapphira Skit (Adapted from Acts 4:32-5:11)
Cast: Narrator (teacher), Ananias, Sapphira, Barnabas, Peter, a few “Young Men,”
Apostles and Believers (choose a few children to be the Apostles, the rest of the
class are the Believers).
To begin, have the “Believers” sit side-by-side in a circle. The Apostles stand in
the center. Have Barnabas, a few “Young Men,” Ananias and Sapphira stand off to
the side. Players act out the script as the teacher narrates it. Actors follow the italicized
cues given by the narrator.
Narrator: After Jesus was crucified, he rose from the dead and went back to heaven. At that time, all his followers loved each other and got along really well.
Put your arms around your fellow believers and gently sway back and forth.
In fact, they never fought about anything! They shared everything they owned with
one another!
Shake hands with the people on either side of you.
With great power from God, the apostles told others about the resurrection of
Jesus . . .
